Hugo Hills Secure Residential Treatment Facility (SRTF)

Hugo Hills provides psychosocial rehabilitative services in a secure setting to people with a chronic mental illness. Unlike many residential facilities, we are able to provide private rooms for each resident. Our experienced and well-trained staff enthusiastically provide supportive, personalized care to each of our 16 residents. Hugo Hills offers a solid foundation of structure and support for each resident, including but not limited to individual and group therapy, life skills training, rep payee and budgeting assistance, and medication management. Most Hugo residents participate in our innovative pre-vocational program, which teaches residents basic job skills and allows them to earn a modest income each week. We employ a full-time QMHP, three full-time nurses, and our psychiatrist is available to meet with residents on a weekly basis.

Hugo Hills is located in a peaceful rural setting, but we encourage our residents to stay active in community-based activities. We also help to coordinate medical and dental care for all Hugo residents. Our staff provide transportation and supervision for community outings or appointments. Some of our residentsí favorite activities in the community include spending time at the Union Drop-In Center, working out at the gym, going to garage sales, and playing disc golf. In addition, our residents are able to do gardening, go fishing, and enjoy extended camping trips.

Residents are referred to Hugo Hills through the Extended Care Management Unit (ECMU) of the Oregon Addictions and Mental Health Division. Although Hugo Hills gives high priority to placing residents from Josephine County and Southern Oregon, our typical census includes residents from throughout Oregon. Hugo residents are often able to participate in other Options for Southern Oregon programs, such as Employment Works and outpatient Dual Diagnosis treatment.

The average length of stay for residents of Hugo Hills is 18-24 months. As residents gain new skills and maintain a stable level of functioning, they work with their treatment team to prepare for the transition to a step-down placement or more independent living situation. During the discharge process, Hugo Hills coordinates with the residentís county of responsiveness and/or the discharge placement site to insure continuity of care.
